Drexel Town Square continues Oak Creek growth

Oak Creek — Just three years ago, the 85-acre site at Howell and Drexel avenues which once housed a closed Delphi Corp. auto parts factory was nothing more than a large vacant lot.

Today, the mixed-use development known as Drexel Town Square is home to the Oak Creek City Hall, the Oak Creek Public Library, stores, restaurants and upscale apartments where residents began living this month.

Meanwhile, Barrett Lo Visionary Development LLC is finishing its first phase of Emerald Row Apartments, a four-story building with 167 units and a Valentine Coffee Co. cafe in the street-level commercial space.

Emerald Row's first residents moved in this month, with monthly rents starting at $1,100. The building has leased out 92 units, which puts it way ahead of its expected pace, said developer Rick Barrett.

More apartments will open in October, he said, with Valentine's to open by early 2017.

Drexel Town Square to get 5 national chain restaurants in new building

The project is proposed on land next to the Chick-fil-A restaurant that opened on Drexel Avenue this spring. With 10,300 square feet of space, the building would have room for five restaurants. The project means only 1.95 acres fronting on Howell Avenue remain available in the 85-anchor Drexel Town Square development.
